Internship opportunities
Representative May periodically makes unpaid internships available to young people who are interested in government and public service. District internships provide a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge and to develop skills that will be valuable in the workplace.
An internship with Representative May is ideal for students majoring in political science, business administration, communications, public relations, journalism, social sciences, or other related fields. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in community service or public affairs and be enrolled in college. In some instances high school students may be accepted.
If you are interested in applying for an internship in Representative May's district office, please submit the following information:
- Letter of interest that includes:
- The times you are available as well as the days and times you can work
- What you hope to learn from the internship experience
- The best way to contact you if we need to follow up or want to schedule an interview
- Resume
- Personal and/or work references: please provide the names and contact information of three individuals willing to provide a reference for you.
Please submit these materials by e-mail to karen@repkarenmay.org or by mail to Rep. Karen May, Attn: Internship Program, 427 Sheridan Rd., Highwood, IL 60040.
Internship applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. A staff member will review inquiries and contact candidates for further consideration and/or interviews.
Internship opportunities are available throughout the year, but there is an emphasis on offering college students an internship for the summer. Once an individual is accepted as an intern, staff will work with him or her to determine the start date and work hours. Upon satisfactory completion of the internship, Representative May will provide a letter of reference and interns will be able to include the experience on their resume.
